The Mourner is the fourth Parker novel from Richard Stark, pretty much a stand-alone following the first three books that focus on Parkers war with The Outfit. This novel is either a Maltese Falcon knock-off or homage, as you prefer. I think homage, though it is Parker is way more ruthless than Sam Spade/5.
